Shapes, slices & a greasy floor.
Look and learn with Charlie Venn at Fractured Society.
On Sunday 11th October 2026, we hosted Charlie Venn for a look & learn event, bringing a great bunch of barbers from across Manchester and Cheshire. We even had a lad come down from Glasgow, representing Pine Barber Co, big props for that commitment to the craft.
A solid turnout and a good excuse to get everyone together, talk barbering and pick up a few things along the way.
First in the chair was Ethan.
Charlie kicked things off with a longer-length haircut, breaking down the foundations of shape, setting guides and building structure. All the important stuff that makes a good haircut work.
He finished it off with Uppercut Deluxe Texture Cream, adding movement and keeping things looking natural.
Then came the important part.
Pizza and doughnuts.
The fine combination of sugar and grease was quickly demolished, although Rob took things a little further by distributing pizza grease across the floor.
Before long, the tiles resembled an ice rink, leaving Charlie’s safety and the second half of the demonstration hanging in the balance.
Fortunately everyone survived.
The grease culprit is in the background there looking like he’s just made a massive error.
By the time our second model, Jack, took to the chair, the socialising had slowed, bellies were full and an afternoon nap was looking increasingly appealing.
We needed something to wake everyone up.
And this next trim was a belter.
(Geordie for really really good.)
Charlie brought modern and classic barbering together, combining multiple shapes you’d probably recognise from a playstation controller.
Fortunately, X didn’t get a look-in. Because this trim got full marks and a big tick!
Throw those shapes together, add the rear end of your kids favourite waterfowl, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a haircut.
Jack must have wondered why kids were throwing bread at him on the walk home.
A proper bit of craftsmanship and a great demonstration of how different shapes and techniques can work together.
This look was styled using some Uppercut Deluxe Matte Pomade blow dried in and finished with Uppercut Deluxe Styling Powder to add those final details.
Massive thanks to everyone who made the effort to come down, get involved and make it a damn fine day.
Charlie is a phenomenal barber and educator. If you’re looking to develop your skills and understanding of cutting hair, he’s well worth getting intouch with.
And big shout out to Uppercut Deluxe and Rob Helm for sorting everyone out with some party bags.
Good people, good haircuts and a dangerously greasy floor.
Not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
